What is Sensex? How is it calculated?

Sensex is the index composed of 50 companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The companies are selected to be in these 50 stocks on various parameters such as Market Capitalization, volume of traded stocks etc. The movement of sensex represents just the movement of these 50 stocks.
